Sugilite

Origin: Wessels Mine, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

Mohs Hardness: 5.5-6.5

Purple Sugilite is a very rare, vibrant pink to purple, sodium-potassium-lithium silicate mineral and is a coveted gemstone. It originates from the Kalahari Manganese Field and lies amongst sedimentary rocks known to be more than two billion years old. High-quality specimens are sought after by mineral collectors due to rarity and color- saturated beauty. It was first discovered in 1944  (a greenish-yellowish-brown variety) by professor and geologist Ken-Ishi Sugi, in Japan. However, it didn’t become a popular gemstone for jewelry and collections until 1979, when commercial quantities were discovered at Wessels Mine, South Africa.

Metaphysically, Purple Sugilite symbolizes spiritual love and growth, connecting wearers to higher realms, and fostering deep bonds.
