Fluorite or Fluorspar

Fluorite is a colorful and often beautifully banded mineral composed of calcium fluoride belonging to the Halide Family. It is a late-crystalizing mineral that typically forms through hydrothermal activity within Igneous and Limestone rocks. The name “fluorite” is derived from the Latin word “fluere” that means “to flow.” Fluorite is slightly water soluble, so extended contact with water or liquid should be avoided. It is also fluorescent and phosphorescent. Colorful and banded varieties of fluorite are widely used as ornamental, making it a favorite for making jewelry. The “softness” and translucence of fluorite makes it ideal for strikingly carved art.
Metaphysically, Fluorite is believed to cleanse and purify the body and stabilize energy, increasing the ability to concentrate, and it helps to understand and maintain relationships.
